This is not really surprising as pharma is the MHRA’s best client, and the MHRA is policing itself. What should happen is that the regulatory arm should be completely separate from the vigilance. But that’s asking too much from what seems to be an entrenched and sclerotic system.

The disquiet has been expressed in a petition that has so far received just over 11,000 signatures. 

Unfazed by it all, the government responded yesterday- as it should.
